Canadian Peptide Buyers Guide

Customs, import declarations and the records behind genuine laboratory research. Know what to confirm before an international order — and what a research-use-only label cannot prove.

For laboratory research only, not human or animal consumption. This guide is general information, not legal advice, an import permit or a promise of customs clearance. CBSA and Health Canada determine the requirements for the actual shipment.

FirstLabs Retatrutide 20mg research vial; a product label is not customs authorization

A label is not an exemption

Calling a product “research use only” does not automatically make it legal to import. A COA reports analytical results; it is not proof of regulatory approval, intended use or permission to bring the material into Canada. Personal treatment or self-experimentation must not be described as laboratory research.

Domestic purchase or international import?

A shipment moving entirely within Canada does not cross the Canadian border at that delivery stage. Confirm the actual dispatch location: a Canadian website, CAD price or Canadian return address does not establish where your parcel starts. Domestic dispatch also does not establish lawful authorization, Canadian manufacture or product safety.

For an overseas shipment, confirm who is the importer of record and who handles clearance, duties, taxes and brokerage charges before buying. Commercial laboratory orders and personal-use drug imports have different requirements. A personal-use allowance is not a blanket permission to import unauthorized peptides.

FirstLabs shipping policy

Before ordering across the border

  1. Identify the actual material. Confirm the exact chemical name, composition, form, concentration or vial content, quantity and intended use. Request an SDS where applicable and a shipment-matched invoice and packing list.
  2. Confirm regulatory requirements. Ask Health Canada about the exact material and intended activity if its classification or import eligibility is unclear. Requirements may include authorization or licensing; an institutional purchase order does not replace them.
  3. Resolve tariff classification and origin. Do not assume every peptide uses the same tariff code. A customs broker can help assess the specific material; CBSA offers advance rulings on tariff classification. Country of manufacture is not necessarily country of dispatch.
  4. Confirm importer responsibilities. For commercial imports, review business/import account requirements, CARM registration and applicable records obligations with CBSA or your broker. Using a broker does not remove the importer’s responsibility for accuracy.

Make a truthful import declaration

Provide an accurate, specific description of the contents, quantities, transaction value and currency, origin and actual intended use. Keep the invoice, payment and packing records consistent. Verify the tariff classification and any additional information or permits required for that shipment with the broker or responsible agency.

Do not ask a seller to understate the value, mark a purchase as a gift, conceal the compound name, or relabel it as a harmless cosmetic or generic sample to avoid review. Do not split shipments to evade restrictions or invent a laboratory affiliation.

Supporting genuine research use

There is no universal “research-use proof” document that guarantees release. If you are genuinely purchasing for laboratory work, the following existing records may help explain the shipment. This is a practical documentation checklist, not an official approval checklist; provide only truthful, relevant records when requested.

  • Real purchaser and recipient: the institution or business name, laboratory address, purchase order and a responsible researcher or laboratory contact, where applicable.
  • Actual research purpose: a dated project or protocol summary describing the non-clinical experiment and why the material and quantity are needed. Do not invent a project or describe personal use as an experiment.
  • Material documentation: the exact compound and formulation, SDS where applicable, invoice, packing list, vial labels and any available lot-linked COA. A sample certificate without a stock-to-lot link does not prove the shipment matches it.
  • Required permissions: any genuine licences, permits or authorizations applicable to that material and activity. A COA, research letter or workplace address does not replace them.

Answer an officer’s questions accurately and directly. If you cannot substantiate a statement, say so and obtain the missing record from the responsible party. Do not submit confidential research data beyond what is requested; ask the officer or your institution how to provide sensitive documents securely.

If customs holds the shipment

Read the carrier or government notice and establish which agency is reviewing the parcel, its reference number, the reason and any response deadline. Contact the carrier or broker for the clearance status; follow official instructions and provide requested records through the specified channel. Health Canada may assess regulated products referred by CBSA.

Missing paperwork and inadmissibility are not the same issue. Documents cannot make a prohibited or unauthorized import admissible. Do not reship under a different description to bypass the decision. If refused, ask the responsible agency about the permitted next steps and any available review process; release, return, destruction and refunds are not guaranteed.
